
Brad Finkeldei is a community leader who has spent the last two decades working to maintain and enhance the excellent quality of life for all Lawrence residents. Finkeldei has demonstrated this commitment over the years by serving in multiple capacities through-out the community, including the last 4 years on the Lawernce City Commission. Brad previously served six years on the Lawrence Douglas County Planning Commission (past chair).
Prior to be elected to the city commission, Brad is served 9 years on the Board of Directors for Lawrence Family Promise (serving the last three years as president), served 18 years the Board of Directors for Ballard Community Services (including 7 years as president), served as the Chair of the Finance Committee at St. John Parish, and is the Trustee of the Ethel & Raymond Rice Foundation.
Brad also served as the Chairman of the Board of the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce. As part of those responsibilities he served on the board for the Bioscience & Technology Business Center (now KUIP), Joint Economic Development Council, the Economic Development Corporation, the Kansas City Area Development Council, and the Dwayne Peaslee Technical Training Center.
In the past, Brad has also served as the President of the Douglas County Chapter of the American Red Cross, chair of the City's Alcohol Tax Fund Committee, chair of the Leadership Lawrence Board of Directors, president of the Lawrence Jayhawk Rotary Club and assistant-governor for the Rotary clubs of Northeast Kansas.
Brad has been awarded the Leadership Lawrence Distinguished Alumni award in 2009, Don Volker Leadership Award in 2011, the US News & World Report Lawyer of the Year for Education Law in 2013, the US News & World Report Lawyer of the Year for Land Use & Zoning Law in 2014, the US News & World Report Lawyer of the Year for Banking and Finance law in 2021, the Chamber’s Wally Galluzzi Volunteer of the year in 2018, the Heroes Among Us award from the Ballard Center in 2018.
Brad is the managing partner of the law firm of Stevens & Brand, LLP where he focuses his practice on litigation, banking, and governmental law. He is a 1999 graduate of the University of Kansas School of Law and a 1996 graduate of Kansas State University, where he earned a degree in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Economics. At KSU, Brad served two terms as the Student Body Vice President.
Brad is married to Amy Finkeldei who is the Senior Director of Performance and Quality Improvement at Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center. Brad and Amy have two adult daughters, Raegan and Chaney.
